Sussex Yeomanry of today

Sussex Yeomanry is a specialist cavalry group that has been formed for the purpose of promoting historical mounted weapons skills through giving demonstrations, putting on displays and taking part in competitions both in the UK and abroad.

In doing so, our aim is to keep alive both the memory and spirit of the Sussex Yeomanry, together with their skills, from the period of the Napoleonic Wars through to the outbreak of WW1.

The Sussex Yeomanry Association represents former and serving members of Territorial Army and Reserve Forces Units (Army Reserve) that have borne the Sussex Yeomanry Title. Details of the Association and its activities can be found at www.sussexyeomanry.org

Members of Sussex Yeomanry have demonstrated mounted skill at arms and other cavalry skills at a range of venues from Stately Homes such as Blenheim Palace & Burghley House to local schools (as part of historical educational events) and have lead the parade at village fairs . They have also:-

  • organised and taken part in tentpegging/SAA competitions both in the UK and abroad
  • entered Cavalry skills competitions such as the German Cavalry Championships held at Gotha in E Germany
  • competed in club-level competitions at Muiderberg in Holland and in Masters’ competition in South Africa.
